The Marion County Juvenile Detention Center is open 365 days per year in addition to 24 hours per day access. This facility is currently housed at 2970 Center Street NE in Salem, Oregon. This facility houses juveniles charged with the attempt of or completion of a crime, juveniles that have been deemed a risk to their community, juveniles that have failed to attend one or more court hearings or proceedings, and juveniles that are on probation and have not complied with at least one or more of the conditions of their probation.
The Marion County Juvenile Detention Center assists juveniles between 8 and 18 years of age through diversion, informal probation, formal probation, detention, guaranteed attendance program (GAP), alternative programs, family support program, substance abuse treatment and recovery (STAR) partnership, and administration.
The Marion County Juvenile Detention Center provides structure for these juveniles and implement education programs, counseling, physical and recreation educational opportunities, medical services, and other related initiatives. This facility allows juveniles to receive an education during the entire year while at the detention center.
During their time at the Marion County Juvenile Detention Center, juveniles receive access to education programs and services, such as vision screening, specialized testing, and education advocates that support the juvenile’s attendance and educational success. These educational opportunities provide juveniles with the resources they need in order to gain confidence inside and outside of the classroom.
During the intake process, every juvenile goes through a thorough screening process in order to detect medical illnesses, disorders or injuries. Furthermore, every juvenile is provided with the appropriate resources for counseling services in order to fulfill any psychological or emotional needs during the juvenile’s time at the Marion County Juvenile Detention Center. While in detention, juveniles will meet with counselors who will conduct suicide risk assessments as well as group and individual counseling. The counselors work during the day and evening Monday – Friday.
The Physical and Recreational education that all juveniles receive while at the Marion County Juvenile Detention Center allows for each juvenile to learn about and appreciate the significance of exercise and living a healthy lifestyle. In addition, all juveniles are given daily access to leisure and fitness activities in order to promote exercise and healthy lifestyles.
Additionally, the Marion County Juvenile Detention Center provides alternative programs for the juveniles such as community service, the Matrix program, the Focused Utilization of Employment and Labor (FUEL) program, and safety programs.
