Volusia County Branch Jail was built in 1986 and it was used starting 1987. It can house 899 patrons. The jail is inspected annually and kept up to the Florida Model Jail Standards. There are only five inmates to every correctional officer employed to the jail. The majority of the inmates are incarcerated for traffic violations, assault convictions, or drugs.
The overall average length of stay in 2014 per inmate was 21.5 days. However, almost sixty percent of the inmates were released after three days.
Inmate Programs at Volusia County Branch Jail
GED programs through Daytona State College: inmates will be allowed to continue their programs even after they are released from the jail without any cost to the individual.
Program Services assists with all religious, counseling, recreational, and educational services.
Case Management staff give new inmates general orientation to get them acclimated to the jail. They assign them to work assignment, give them program referrals, and classify them for housing.
Corrections Treatment Diversion Program (CTDP): This is a drug and alcohol program that is available to the individuals while in custody.
