Gangs and community security

Gangs in your neighborhood can directly affect the security that you and your children feel. If gang presence increases your safety will decrease. Gangs tend to spread violence and fear in any community they take a strong hold of. They also make is dangerous for your children to go to school safely and play safely in the neighborhood. The reason why gangs get stronger in a community is because they are allowed to recruit the young people. If we can stop the recruitment the gangs will move on to another neighborhood. In order to break this cycle and stop the recruitment of our young people, we must include all facets of the neighborhood from the government to the citizens. Law enforcement must also be harsh on the leaders so that their activity is disrupted and hopefully broken up. It is the job of the community to make membership in these gangs less desirable by providing strong programs that are anti-gang to draw our youth away from them. As long as we provide consistent programs to our youth in the community that will occupy their mind and bodies, they may stay away from the strong associations that develop from gangs. Stay involved with your youngster and you may save him from running to become part of a gang.
