Harris County Jail located at 1307 Baker Street is one of the several jail facilities in Houston TX. It is equipped currently to hold 1572 inmates. The sheriff’s office was founded in 1837 and is currently to the third largest sheriff’s office in the U.S. Harris County sheriff’s department is committed to maintaining a safe community for the citizens who live there.

Visitation

If you plan to visit an inmate at Harris County Jail, you must be prepared to follow the guidelines enforced by the institution. The rules implement necessary procedures to keep visitors, prisoners and correctional staff safe. Visitors will not be allowed to enter the facility after 8:40 P.M and there are no visitations on Monday’s, Thursday’s, and Friday. Anyone over 17 is required to present proper identification either a federal I.D. card or a driver’s license. Children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Limitations are put on the number of people allowed to visit at one time to two adults, and two children and inmates are only allowed rights to visitation twenty mins per day. No items are permitted to be given or left to an inmate such as purses, wallets, bags, weapons, recording devices, and food or liquids. There are lockers available to leave personal items before entering for visitation of an inmate. Clothing of visitors must be appropriate attire when visiting Harris County Jail. No clothing is allowed that is revealing, restrictive, spandex, sleeveless, dresses shorts or skirts above mid-thigh, and most importantly anything that can be perceived as gang related or obscene.
