Class sizes are relatively small at Hillcrest and never exceed over ten students. Educational courses that are offered go towards the completion of a high school diploma in the state of Ohio. Courses include science, math, health education, history and English. In addition to educational services Hillcrest offers youth choices between two sports in the summer, spring, winter and fall. They are eligible to compete against surrounding area divisions in sports and athletics.  Hillcrest Academy strives to make ultimately a difference in communities they serve.

Family Engagement

Student success is critical at Hillcrest Academy that is why they encourage family members to be involved from the beginning. The goal is to repair, build, and strengthen bonds between youth and his family. Hillcrest works to engage family members from the beginning of their teens to stay until the day they return home.

Meetings for Parents

Rite of Passage staff works with parents to use a strength based cognitive approach to their children. The Family services program tries to restructure parenting skills to empower the parents to take part in their students education with support to ensure that they continue to see positive results from their children. Active Parenting curriculum is one way Hillcrest supports families through multi-families groups. Students and parents both will come together to learn strategies that have been proven to increase family communication and safely change their relationships to higher levels through connectivity.  A case manager in addition to a licensed mental health provider will be over small groups of parents. Communication is the primary goal while other topics are covered as well such as drug and alcohol abuse, teaching youth to be responsible for their actions, setting boundaries for parents and youth, as well as non-violent conflict resolution.

Treatment Services

At intake youth will be assessed by testing their emotional and ability level. The Ohio Youth Assessment System (OYAS) is also incorporated in developing a case plan for each student.
