All visitors must be free of any wants or warrants by any government agency. Visitors that have orders by the court not to be near the inmate also may not visit. If the inmate tries to get someone to visit them that is forbidden by the courts, they will have their privileges of visitation revoked and will not be allowed to have anyone visit except legal counsel. This is a serious offense and will result in the inmate never being allowed visitation for the length of their stay at this facility. You are only allowed to visit one inmate per day.
Any visitors that are unruly or abusive in the lobby will be told to leave or risk being arrested themselves. The dress code is as follows:
- No skirts or dresses shorter than knee high – no shorts cut higher than mid-thigh
- Shirts must have sleeves and also must cover your entire upper body including your torso
- Pants must be worn above the waist and will not show any underwear of any kind
- All clothing must be loose fitting and not see-through
- You will not be allowed to wear your jacket or coat into visitation
- There are no hats, “do-rags”, or caps allowed
You must have proper identification with you and if you are under 18 you must be accompanied by an adult and stay with them at all times. Anyone over 14 must have photo identification of some type in order to visit.
The facility has the right to refuse visitation of anyone for any reason whatsoever so make sure you are following the rules and do what you are told.
Why are visitations important to an inmate?
Visitation time is extremely important to an inmate. This may be their only contact with the outside world. It is these moments that make life in jail able to be tolerated so understand that anything you do to cause the visit to not happen could be devastating to the inmate. It is important that the inmate have someone on the outside they can depend on to visit them and make them feel wanted and connected. It is important they know someone still cares for them and they need to feel connected. An inmate will be able to tolerate their stay incarcerated if they know someone on the outside cares about them. Make sure you follow all of the rules to the letter so that your visit will go as scheduled. When you are there try to stay positive and keep the inmate informed about what is going on outside the prison so they can feel like they are a part of your life.
